This victory wasn’t just any win—it was a bold statement of the capabilities and determination. The new GT3 challenger had already proven its prowess by claiming the GTD class victory at the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Adding an FIA WEC trophy to the collection highlights the intense dedication and skill within the team. For Juncadella and Edgar, this win marks their first in both the WEC and a Corvette, while Keating, the endurance racing veteran, celebrates his eighth WEC win—four of those with America’s favorite sports car.

Heroic Journey to Victory

The race in Qatar was nothing short of dramatic. Ben Keating set a fierce pace, moving from 13th to sixth in the opening three hours. Despite his time away after winning the 2023 GTE Am title, Keating showed no signs of rust. Jonny Edgar, making his WEC debut, continued the climb as the sun set over Lusail, propelling the Corvette even further up the leaderboard. Daniel Juncadella then took over, driving the team into the class lead past the halfway point and holding off fierce competition until the end.

With 90 minutes remaining, Juncadella took to the track for the final stint, making a strategic pit stop for fuel and left-side tires. In a thrilling final 30 minutes of nose-to-tail racing, he held off relentless pressure from the second-place McLaren, expertly navigating through faster traffic to clinch the victory.

A Day of Mixed Emotions

While the #33 Corvette celebrated a historic win, the day wasn’t as kind to the No. 81 Corvette, which faced a mechanical failure just an hour into the race. However, the focus and celebration belong to the victorious No. 33 team.

In other race news, Ferrari’s AF Corse squad dominated the Hypercar class with a 1-2-3 finish, while teams like BMW, Toyota, and Cadillac showcased moments of brilliance but couldn’t outperform Ferrari’s strong trio.

A Triumphant Moment

Juncadella’s performance was nothing short of heroic, withstanding fierce attacks from McLaren’s Grégoire Saucy and sealing Corvette’s second major endurance event win of 2025. Reflecting on the race, Juncadella humorously shared, “Looking at my heart rate, I think I was 35 bpm higher in the last stint than in the first one, so that tells you pretty much everything! We were hoping for a solid start to the season, maybe a top five, but winning? That’s something else.”

The Corvette Z06 GT3.R has officially arrived in the FIA WEC, and it’s clear they are here to compete at the highest level. Next up, attention turns to the 6 Hours of Imola, where they aim to keep this fantastic momentum rolling.

Stay tuned, Wynn’s Racing fans! The journey is just heating up.
